Once Bitten (Haven #1)

Once Bitten (Haven #1) - Kalayna Price

Kita Nekai is the smallest shifter of her clan; a calico cat among lions and tigers - oh my. She was supposed to accept her role as the succsesor of her father and be ruler of the clan. But her cat just isn't big enough, so she disagreed. Now she's less than a step ahead of hunters, is bone tired, cold and only having enough money to live on in Haven. That's the high point if her day as she's drugged, 'accidentally' turned into a vampire, and sentenced to death for recklessly creating a rogue shifter who tortures its human prey. She's got 72 hours to find the rogue, stay away from the hunters in the city, prove she's not the one responsible for the rogue, and keep the vampire council from killing her. She's tasked with all this while trying to juggle her partners, an apprentice mage, a married ex-boyfriend shifter, who is also a hunter, and the vampire who made her.

My favorite part of this book was probably Nathaniel(vampire who made her.) He was sweet, nice, badbutt kinda guy, he was always worried about her, he cared and wanted to help her any way he could. He was just killing me with sweetness. I thought Bobby was a little annoying, I mean he was okay but he kept like acting all sweet on her when HE was the one who mated another chick. It really rubbed me the wrong way and I totally want her to go to Nathaniel.

The  mystery of who was doing the murders and whether or not it was Kita's fault was really nice. From almost the beginning I was pretty sure I knew who'd made the rogue, and it was easy to know, but them getting there was fun to read through. And I love reading books with different vampire and shifter lore, and this one was different than most and was super fun to learn and be immersed in. And with what happened with the vampires and how Nathaniel was acting and I was like:

I enjoyed Kita, she was head strong, and wanted to help the others. She did think about just up and leaving a couple of times, and actually tried to do it once to save the other two but she did eventually come back. And I totally laughed at her being afraid of dogs. It was hilarious and understandable with her past with canines. All in all this book was super enjoyable and I wasn't at all waiting for it to end so I could get to the next book I wanted to read. Good book, good pace, good action - though not like a ton for you action readers out there. It was a really fun, quick read, and I can't wait to get the second book.

I have to say I would absolutely recommend this to people who love shifters and vampires, and sci fi fantasy readers who want a fun read.

Rating - 6/10
