Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1)

J.R. Ward

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J.R. Ward

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

(There is a good chance I'll add spoilers, if you haven't read, know it was awesome and you should read it and not these spoilers.)
Alright what did I love about this book? Gotta say everything. I started with the little glossary of the world, and it grabbed me from the beginning. I love that there are names for mated males and females, and I just love 'leelan' for dearest one. It just flows somehow and worked so well.

The. Guys. Goodness, what wasn't there to like. Wrath a big strong vampire who has a past you don't know, who has no attachments except his brothers. Hasn't cared for a woman in centuries and believes he doesn't deserve anything, that he's a coward. I gotta say heroes that don't believe they're good enough and have sad pasts make me just want to hold them forever. Beth was really cool, even though she's not very strong physically, but she makes up for it in attitude. I loved that she didn't let anyone push her around. She was smart and wouldn't let anyone push her into something she didn't want.

All the brothers were phenomenal, I did really enjoy Zsadist, he's still a really mysterious male, and I know he has that soul they believe he lacks, and god he is scarred and DESERVES LOVE.  I want all of them to find what Wrath now has.

Marissa and Havers were pretty cool, but I knew that if Marissa had just made him listen what happened wouldn't have. But it all worked out well and I did really enjoy the ending. I can't wait to see them take down Mr. X and the Omega.

I actually got the second book, Lover Eternal from my library, I'll read it right after I finish Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews and Dragonbane by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I loved this book.

Would absolutely recommend it to Sci-fi fantasy romance lovers. I loved it so much and will be getting it on my bookshelf one day. It was totally worth reading and J.R. Ward is a phenomenal author.

Contains Sexual scenes?: Yes it does, some very good scenes to tell you the truth, it wasn't just the writing I think it was the thought behind them, they were more sensual with each other, it wasn't what you usually see, it was very romantic and just really unique, it was in a word - perfect.
