Once a dedicated soldier of the Knights Templar, Derek de Molay was betrayed and killed. So instead of an eternity in Heaven, he has decided to battle the Dark Angels of Hell. But as the war between good and evil rages, he is summoned back to the mortal realm to protect a woman standing too close to the edge of darkness.
Rachel Duncan has never felt this way before. A mysterious man is intent on seducing her with expensive gifts and trips on his private plane, yet it is Derek, a breathtaking stranger, who tugs at her heart. With him, there is laughter, light . . . and love. But Derek tells an impossible, insane story, though deep in her heart she knows it to be true. Now Derek and Rachel must race against time to save the mortal souls of mankind . . . and each other.
Okay so I'll start with what I liked about this book -
Derek. Sampson. Angels and demons. Premise. Pace of the book. Derek.
Now for the things I absolutely hated - Rachel, Zanus - bad guy of course I hate him. As for Rachel -
Now we all know how there are a ton of books with kick butt women, this isn't one of them.
Or the books where the main female role is a girl who you like as she takes no crap from anyone, this isn't one of them.
You had all the makings of the latter but it just didn't add up. Rachel said two or three times, 'I don't want a partner controlling me, I just can't allow that in a relationship.' But then the bad guy Zanus constantly controlled her. He chose where they went, when they went, and what they did. No matter what, and then when she didn't want to do something he pushed and prodded and just threatened her into it. And she was kinda worried for a little and they had sex because he gave her a diamond bracelet, and you know he has to be perfect because of that. And then after it's over he rolls away and goes to sleep. She worries over the fact that he was like a machine and had no passion or feelings and then she says he's perfect because he doesn't snore! She gave me whiplash. And then he wanted to meet her friends who are in her 'book club' where they don't read anymore they just gossip and all that. So she just wants some girl time, but he pushes a little, she still tries saying he'd be bored and he starts to get angry saying 'you think I'm boring'; she flips and says you know what sure you can go.
Would I recommend this book? I truly don't think so. I might but it'd have to be with a certain reader and only if they wanted to after this
